The Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund
The
Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund was created in 1977 to carry
on the ideals of the late Congressman Nicholas J. Begich from
Alaska, who came to the state in 1956 as a teacher and believed
that education was both a right and a privilege, one that must
be available to all as a key to self-realization. Since inception,
the Fund has provided over $320,000 in support to exceptional
Alaskans, helping them realize their educational goals. Candidates’ applications
are received in the early part of each year and reviewed by the Fund’s
Board of directors. Successful applicants are usually announced
in the month of April, coinciding with the late congressman's birthday, or May.
NOTICE: The 2012/13 awards period is now open. Applications close February 29, 2012. Any questions should be directed to : info@nickbegichfund.org
Announcement: It is with great sadness that the Board announces the passing of Margaret Ritchie, Board Secretary in May 2011. A founding member of the Board and a driving force behind the preservation of the memory of her great friend, Nick Begich, Margaret changed the lives of all she met. She will be deeply mourned and missed by us all. A memory of her may be found here.
